Story walks are a great way to practise vocabulary in context, check story comprehension and improve reading skills.
These 7 story walks retell key events from the Read and Rhyme with Brown Owl rhyming stories.

How to use a story walk:
1) introduce key words from the story. Fill out the wordmat to use as a picture dictionary and point of reference.
TIP: Use wordmat for a game of bingo and/or colour dictation
2) read the story to the class
3) place the story walk picture cards around the room
4) hand out the differentiated worksheets (Level 1: single words, Level 2: short phrase, Level 3: longer phrase, Level 4: two phrases)
5) children match the word/phrase on their worksheet with the picture card and write down the LETTER that they find
6) put all the letters together to find the secret message!
N.B. There are also flashcards and games available to practise key words.
