These Sketch Notes show all necessary family members of the royal family that are neaded to understand the conflict of the War of the Roses and each party’s claim to the throne. It will also be helpful throughout the play as it can alsways be used to check family ties.
This overview intends to show how the most important characters are related to each other. Some very interesting connections become apparent if digging deeper. Family members that are not related to the characters in the play are left out (even if they are important in the history of the War of the Roses such as Richard II) as it would get too crowded. Students love to solve this riddle-like activity, which can be used after having started to read Richard III, such as after reading Act I, Scene 2. Also it makes sense to use it in combination with the character relationship map for Scene 1 or the Pre Reading character map.
