Before reading Shakespeare it is always a good idea to focus on language. Early Modern English differs from our use of (modern) English and especially Shakespeare used language in various clever ways. He often chose pronouns with deliberate care and therefore conveyed hints about the relationship between characters as people at his time had a second set of pronouns available for the 2nd person singular (thou, thee, thy, thine).
This activity is meant to explain the use of pronouns as well as supply an example of a conversation taken from Hamlet as a listening activity which is also analysed.
This material includes student worksheets in two versions (digital & printer friendly) and an answer sheet, as well as links to online audio book versions of the listening part in the teacher’s notes.
