What happened on 5 November 1605, and why is Guy Fawkes Night still celebrated today? This interactive Reading Chain introduces students to the story of the Gunpowder Plot while practising reading, listening and speaking in English.
Students begin by sharing their first ideas about Guy Fawkes Night. They then work through the Reading Chain as a class, matching questions and answers to discover the story step by step. Follow-up activities review key facts and important vocabulary such as gunpowder, plot, barrel, warning letter and bonfire.
Two versions of the exercises allow for easy differentiation, while an additional task provides an extra challenge for early finishers or stronger students. Vocabulary support for the board is also included.
