Understanding how punctuation works helps students write clearer and more precise sentences. This worksheet introduces learners to the use of commas with extra (nonessential) information in English sentences.
Students first explore the rule through a short explanatory paragraph and a word-bank exercise. They learn that some information in a sentence provides additional detail but is not essential for understanding the main idea.
In the following tasks, students practice identifying where commas are needed when extra information appears in the middle of a sentence. Finally, they expand simple sentences by adding their own extra information and punctuating it correctly.
The activity combines rule discovery, punctuation practice, and creative sentence building. It can be used as a grammar mini-lesson, editing exercise, or writing practice activity.
