Speakers and writers don’t just use words — they use language as a tool. To make their ideas clearer, more exciting, or more emotional, they rely on stylistic devices. These little tricks help them get our attention, convince us of their point, or paint a picture in our minds. But sometimes it can be tough to recognize these devices or explain how they work.

This game will give your students the chance to practice spotting and understanding frequently used stylistic devices.

Instructions:

Each students gets a card that has either (1) a stylistic device, (2) an explanation, or (3) an example. 
They mingle around and present their snippet to their peers in order to find their set of three. 
Finally, all triplets present their pairing to the class.

Step by step, they improve their understanding of how these language tools influence readers and listeners.
